The relocation of the temples was a historic event in the 1960’s. At that time, the temples were threatened by submersion in Lake Nasser when the High Dam was constructed.

Abu Simbel Temples build by Ramses II, The great temple dedicated to him and the smaller temple dedicated to his beloved wife queen Nefertari and was built 3.000 years ago.

To get here, you can plan a day trip from either Aswan or Cairo.travel times can be long(if you travel by land, it takes three and half hour one way drive)or expensive(if you travel by air), so is it worth it? Absolutely! The temples of Abu Simbel are some of the most impressive and unique temples you will see in Egypt, so it is well worth the visit.

Where Is Abu Simbel

Abu Simbel is located 280km (174 Miles) southwest of Aswan and 40 km (24 Miles) north of the Sudanese border. It sits on the western bank of Lake Nasser in the region called Nubia.

About Abu Simbel Temple

Abu Simbel, site of two temples built by the Egyptian king Ramses II (reigned 1279–13 BCE), now located in Aswan southern Egypt. In ancient times the area was at the southern frontier of paranoiac Egypt, facing Nubia. The four colossal statues of Ramses in front of the main temple are spectacular examples of ancient Egyptian art. By means of a complex engineering feat in the 1960s, the temples were salvaged from the rising waters of the Nile River caused by erection of the Aswan High Dam.

Carved out of a sandstone cliff on the west bank of the Nile, south of  Aswan, the temples were unknown to the outside world until their rediscovery in 1813 by the Swiss researcher Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. They were first explored in 1817 by the early Egyptologist Giovanni Battista Belzoni.

The 66-foot (20-metre) seated figures of Ramses are set against the recessed face of the cliff, two on either side of the entrance to the main temple. Carved around their feet are small figures representing Ramses’ children, his queen, Nefertari, and his mother, Muttuy (Mut-tuy, or Queen Ti). Graffiti inscribed on the southern pair by Greek mercenaries serving Egypt in the 6th century BCE have provided important evidence of the early history of the Greek alphabet. The temple itself, dedicated to the sun gods Amon-Re and Re-Horakhte, consists of three consecutive halls extending 185 feet (56 metres) into the cliff, decorated with more Osiris statues of the king and with painted scenes of his purported victory at the Battle of Kadesh. On two days of the year (about February 22 and October 22), the first rays of the morning sun penetrate the whole length of the temple and illuminate the shrine in its innermost sanctuary.

Just to the north of the main temple is a smaller one, dedicated to Nefertari for the worship of the goddess Hathor and adorned with 35-foot (10.5-metre) statues of the king and queen.

How To Get To Abu Simbel

To visit Abu Simbel, there are three ways, the first, round-trip flight from Aswan, second, by land from Aswan and the third, when flying between Cairo and Aswan.

The first way which round-trip flight from Aswan consider the fastest and the best way to get there and flight time average 45 minutes one-way.

The flights are timed such that you have roughly and hour and half to visit the temples before you catch the flight back to Aswan.

The second way by land, expect a long journey more than 8 hours trip, one way, it is a 174 miles drive that takes between 3 and 3 and half hours.

About The Valley Of The Kings

The Valley of the Kings is a burial ground for Ancient Egyptian royalty between the 16th and 11th century BC(18th,19th, and 20th dynasties of the New Kingdom ). The Valley of the Kings has its name from the pharaonic times, built for those who were promised continuing life with the gods. The tombs found were not only burial tombs for the mummified pharaohs, but for their treasure, food and wine, clothes, pets and sacred objects to help the deceased achieve eternal life.

There are 63 tombs at the Valley of the Kings, all discovered before 1922. You cannot visit them all, but worth visiting as many as you can when you go. Today, only 8 of the valley’s 63 tombs can be visited by the public, and they are rarely open at the same time. Instead, the authorities rotate which ones are open in order to try and mitigate the damaging effects of mass tourism (including increased carbon dioxide levels, friction and humidity). In several tombs, the murals are protected by dehumidifiers and glass screens; while others are now equipped with electric lighting.

You may expect when visiting that the tombs are cold, however don’t be surprised when you enter one and you end up sweating more than outside in the sun.The Valley of the Kings was established as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979 along with the rest of the Theban Necropolis, and continues to be the subject of ongoing archaeological exploration.

Tombs Are Open To The Public

Is it worth entering King Tutankhamun’s tomb?

YES, this is the tomb that put Valley of the Kings on the map and made it world famous! You’ll be following the steps of Howard Carter and his excavation team. And in this tomb, you can see the mummified body of King Tutankamun and this is the only mummy in the whole Valley of the Kings.

Tutankhamun Tomb- Kv 62

The Valley of The Kings

The Valley of The Kings

Requires an extra ticket: 300 EGP

The tomb was discovered in 1922 by the famous British Egyptologist Howard Carter. Carter’s discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb was sensational at that time because, it is the most complete and intact Egyptian tomb ever found. The treasures that were found in the tomb of the boy king Tutankhamun amazed the whole world for years. You can notice this upon the faces of the tourists in the Egyptian museum when they see the golden mask, and golden coffin of Tutankhamun. Tutankhamun died unexpectedly, died very young age 19, He ruled Egypt for only 10 years so he was buried in haste.

This can be seen in the lack of wall decoration in all rooms except the impressive burial chamber. The tomb is the smallest of the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings, but is also the most famous. It contains the largest and most elaborate collection of artifacts of any tomb in the valley. The treasures from the tomb can be seen in Cairo Egyptian Museum.

We highly recommend these two tombs.

Note: check at the entrance of the valley about them if, they are open or closed.

TOMB OF HOREMHEP – KV 57

Before coming to the throne himself, Horemheb had served in the court of King Amenhotep IV, then he had continued in his post under the reign of King Tutankhamun and finally under the command of King Ay. Horemheb was the last pharaoh of the 18th dynasty of Egypt.

The tomb was discovered in February, 1908 by the young British Egyptologist Edward Ayrton who worked under the orders of Theodore Davis, was damaged during a rainstorm in the Valley of the Kings in 1996 and has since been closed for repairs. Tomb KV 57 is remarkably well-preserved, and its decorations are some of the most important in the Valley of the Kings. It is 128 meters long and covers over 473 square meters. This tomb marks a transition between earlier tombs, whose axes made a right-angle turn, and the straight-line, single-axis tombs of the later New Kingdom.

TOMB OF TUTMOSIS III – KV 34

The tomb was discovered in 1898 and cleared by Victor Loret, the director of the Antiquities Service. The tomb is in an unusual location as it lies in a narrow cut in the bedrock cliffs, high above the floor of the Valley of the Kings. The tomb is reached through a steel staircase rising over twenty meters above the Valley floor.

The burial chamber is designed in the shape of a large Cartouche. The ceiling is decorated with yellow stars on a dark blue background. The walls of the burial chamber are covered with scenes of the first complete version of the Amduat, or “That Which is in the Underworld”

Which Tombs Do We Recommend

We think that it is absolutely worth it to spend 100 EGP to visit the tomb of Ramses V and VI.

In summary, The Valley of the Kings is one of the most incredible places you can visit in Egypt. Pick three included tombs, the extra expense for the tomb of Ramses V and VI is worth every penny. Only pay the fee to enter Tutankhamen’s tomb if you want to see his mummy. Seti I is worth it if you have the money to spend.

The massive pair of statues known as the Colossi of Memnon are the first monuments that tourist see when they arrive at the West Bank. These two gigantic figures of Amenhotep III were originally situated in front of his Mortuary temple, which seems to have been destroyed for unknown reasons. Each colossus is about 21 meters tall and represents King Amenhotep III seated on his throne. Legend has it that after an earthquake damaged it in 27 BC, one of the statues emitted strange sounds in the morning-perhaps due to the heat of the sun following the humidity of the night. However, the restoration which took place in 193-211 A.D, made the sound stop forever!

Ramesseum

The mortuary temple of Ramses II took around 20 years to build as a part of his funerary complex. The magnificent temple is on Luxor’s West Bank and in its day the Ramesseum was similar to Abu Simbel in grandeur and Medinet Habu in architecture. Ironically the Nile floods deteriorated the temple in which Ramses is portrayed as an eternal deity. Make sure to notice the images of the Battle of Qadesh in which the pharaoh is shown firing his arrows at the retreating enemy. The colossal statues of Ramses which once stood tall at the entrance are now in ruins but you can still see parts scattered around the temple.

The Valley of The Nobles is located on the west bank of Luxor in an area called Sheik Abd El-Korna. The site has rock-cut tombs of nobles and high officials of ancient Egypt. These men once served the Pharaohs during the time of the New Kingdom. (1500 – 500 B.C.)

There are numerous tombs to visit; one of the most important tombs in this cemetery is tomb 55, which belonged to Ra-Mose. He was the mayor of Thebes during the end of the reign of Amenhotep III (Amenophis III) and his son Akhenaton, the vizier. Unfortunately, this tomb is unfinished because Ra-Mose moved, with Akhenaton, to the new capital Akht-Aton (modern-day Tell El-Amarna), therefore the decoration work stopped, and the tomb was left unfinished, except for the scenes which already had been completed. Also we recommend the tombs of Sennofer and Rekhmire since these are two of the best tombs to visit.

The city of Dendera is located on the west bank of the Nile, about 60 km (37 miles) to the north of Luxor. The Dendera Temple Complex is situated around 2.5 km (1.55 miles) to the southeast of this city.

The city of Abydos located 105 km north of Dendera City. The city of Abydose is home to the temple of Seti I.

These two temples are the absolute best in Egypt.  They are the most intact, most colorful, most mysterious, most exciting and best Temples in Egypt.

From Luxor, you can visit Abydos and Dendera on a day trip. It’s a long day, takes around 10 hours, and much of the time is spent in a car. But if you want to see the most fascinating, spectacular two temples in Egypt, this is well worth your time.

Dendera And Abydos

DAY TRIP TO DENDERA AND ABYDOS

You will spend a approximately two hours at each temple complex. Most day trips start in Abydos and stop in Dendera on the way back to Luxor.

ABYDOS AND THE TEMPLE OF SETI I

Getting to Abydos: To get to Abydos from Luxor, it is 170 km drive that takes 3 hours.

Abydos has a special place in the sacred landscape of ancient Egypt, as it was believed to be the place where Osiris was buried. Thus, Abydos was an important cult center for Osiris. A number of temples dedicated to Osiris, all of which were located in one area, were built prior to Seti I’s reign. The Temple of Seti, however, was built on new ground to the south of said temples.

Seti’s temple was mainly built of limestone, though parts of it were constructed with sandstone. Although work began under Seti, the temple was only completed during the reign of his son, Ramesses II. This is visible in some of the temple’s reliefs depicting Ramesses slaying Asiatics and worshipping Osiris.

Like the temples of his predecessors, Seti’s temple was dedicated to Osiris, and consisted of a pylon, two open courts, two hypostyle halls, seven shrines, each to an important Egyptian deity ( Horus, Isis, Osiris, Amun-Ra, Ra-Horakhty and Ptah) and one to Seti himself, a chapel dedicated to the different forms of the god Osiris, and several chambers to the south.

Dendera And Abydos

In addition to the main temple, there was also an Osireion at the back of it. Various additions to the temple were made by later pharaohs, including those from the Late, Ptolemaic, and Roman periods.

A Declaration of Legitimacy to the Throne

The Temple of Seti I played an important role in his family’s claim as a legitimate royal household. Prior to the ascension to the throne by Seti’s father, Ramesses I, Seti’s ancestors were merely warriors, generals at most. Without royal blood in his veins, Seti had to consolidate his position, and one of the ways to do so was to build temples.

Seti I taking a flail from Horus

Seti I taking a flail from HorusIn addition to the worship of Egypt’s traditional gods, Seti’s temple had another feature that made his rule legitimate. This was the Abydos King List , which was found carved on a wall of the temple. The Abydos King List contains the names of 76 kings of ancient Egypt, predecessors whom Seti acknowledged to be legitimate pharaohs.

Pharaohs List at Abydos

Pharaohs List at AbydosOn the other hand, earlier rulers who were considered illegitimate, such as Hatshepsut and Akhenaten, were conveniently omitted from the List. The Abydos King List was arranged in three rows, each containing 38 cartouches. While the first two rows consisted of the names of his predecessors, the third row is just a repetition of Seti’s throne name and praenomen (personal name).

DENDERA AND THE HATHOR TEMPLE

Hathor Column

Hathor ColumnDriving to Dendera: To get to Dendera from Abydos, it is a 105 km drive that takes an hour and half.

Godess Hathor

Hathor was a major goddess in the ancient Egyptian pantheon, who personified the principles of joy, feminine love, and motherhood, and her cult center was at Dendera, one of the best-preserved temple complexes in all of Egypt. The Temple of Hathor is the largest and most impressive buildings in this religious complex, and is visually stunning with its grand entrance, detailed carvings, hieroglyphs, and decorated ceilings.

Dendera:

Dendera is said to mark an old holy place, even by the standards of the ancient Egyptians. It has been pointed out that there is evidence for religious structures built at the site during the reign of the Old Kingdom Pharaoh Pepi I (towards the end of the 3rd millennium BC). There are also remnants of a temple that was built during the New Kingdom, specifically the 18th Dynasty. The current complex, including the Temple of Hathor, however, dates to the Ptolemaic and Roman periods, with (at least) one building dating to the Late Period. This is the mammisi (birth house) of Nectanebo II, the last native ruler of ancient Egypt who ruled during the 4th century BC.

The Temple of Hathor

The Dendera Temple Complex covers an area of 40,000 square meters (430,556.42 sq. ft.), and is surrounded by a large mudbrick wall. Within this enclosure are various structures, including the Temple of the Birth of Isis, a Roman mammisi (attributed either to the reign of Trajan or Nero), a sanatorium, and a sacred lake. It was made famous by a carving that many believe depicts an electrical lightbulb. Nevertheless, the most impressive part of the temple complex is undoubtedly the Temple of Hathor.

The Temple of Hathor was largely constructed during the Late Ptolemaic period, specifically during the reign of Ptolemy XII and Cleopatra VII. Later additions were made during the Roman period. Although built by a dynasty of rulers who were not native Egyptians themselves, the design of this temple has been found to be in accordance to that of other classical Egyptian temples, with the exception of the front of the hypostyle hall, which, according to an inscription above the entrance, was constructed by the Emperor Tiberius.

The tomb of Nefertari , which is located in the Valley of the Queens on the west Bank of Luxor, is one of the most spectacular tombs that you can visit in Egypt.
Tomb of queen Nefertari’s Ramses II favorite wife is the most famous attraction. The tomb is said to be one of the most beautiful and Spectacular in Egypt and a sight to behold. It is known by historians as the “Sistine Chapel of Ancient Egypt.”

The level of the detail is amazing and the color are more vibrant than what you can see any tomb in Egypt. Don’t miss it, put it on your list.

This tomb has a big price tag, costing 1400 EGP. So, is it worth it?

But first, learn about the Queen and her tomb.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE TOMB OF NEFERTARI AT THE VALLEY OF THE QUEENS 2
Private Day Tour to Nefertari

Who was Nefertari?

Nefertari ( the name means “The Most Beautiful one”) was known as “Great Kings wife”, “Lady of Grace”, “Lady of All Lands”, “Wife of the Strong Bull”, “Great of Praises”, “Lady of the Two Lands” “Sweet of Love” and many other nicknames, Queen Nefertari was one of the most famous Egyptian queens and an iconic women of Ancient Egypt.

Ramesses II, like other kings of Egypt, had a large harem of wives. However, at any time only one wife was given the honor of being his ‘chief queen.” Although he would take eight of these queens over his lifetime, Queen Nefertari was his first and most beloved. Ramesses was incredibly devoted to Nefertari and was obsessed with her beauty. All of the best Egypt tours will include the story of Ramesses and his admiration for his wife, as this love story is so important to Egyptian history.

Private Day Tour to Nefertari
Queen Nefertari give offerings to Goddesses Isis,Selkt and Maat

Nefertari Is Not an Ordinary Woman.

The affection that Ramesses had for his wife, which is clearly evident in the adoration painted on the walls of her lavish tomb, shows that Egyptian royal marriages were not always based on power, alliances or conveniences. In some cases they came from a deep and meaningful love. Nefertari was no ordinary woman and Ramesses wanted the world to know how special she was to him. Nefertari was a highly educated woman. Her origins are not really known, other than the fact that she was a member of the nobility.

Nefertari Origin

Nefertari was the Great and most beloved wife of King Ramses II and played an active role in foreign politics. Her ancestry is unknown. Based on the legible/decipherable inscriptions on a fragment of a faience knob head or pommel found in her tomb, speculations were raised. The item carries the throne name ‘Kheper-Kheperu-Ra’ and, is, therefore, connected with King Ay, who ruled Egypt for a few years after Tutankhamun.

However, Nefertari did not carry the title ‘Daughter of a King’, which suggests that she was probably not from the main royal line. Because of the chronology, it seems quite unlikely that she was King Ay’s daughter, perhaps she was Ay’s grand-daughter. Other scholars emphasize that both Ramses II’s royal wives, Isisnofret and Nefertari, had a non-royal background. Nefertari married Ramses when he was crown prince during the reign of his father Sety I. The age at which Ramses II succeeded to the throne of Egypt is uncertain, possibly around his 25th year.

Nefertari was then presumably the same age as her husband or slightly younger (ca. 20–25 years). She gave birth to four sons (Amun-hir-khepeshef, Pa-Ra-wenem-ef, Mery-Ra and Mery-Atum) and four daughters (Baketmut, Nefertari, Merytamun and Henuttaui). Within the succession line, Nefertari’s sons were always preferred to Queen Isisnofret’s although, in the end, the crown went to Merenptah, a son of Queen Isisnofret. Queen Nefertari, as attested by reliefs, attended the opening ceremony of the rock-cut temples of Abu Simbel in the year 24 of Ramses II’s reign (ca. 1255 BC).

After that event, she disappeared. She was absent at the Sed-festival of Ramses II’s 30th regal year. She probably died around his 25th year of reign. As reconstructed from historical records, Nefertari probably reached an age of about 40 to 50 years (minimum 16 + 24 years or maximum 25 + 25 years) whereas Queen Isisnofret I died later, in year 34. Subsequently Ramses II married three of his daughters: Bint-Anat, Merytamun and Nebettaui.

Nefertari’s Tomb – QV 66

Private Day Tour to Nefertari
Private Day Tour to Nefertari
Private Day Tour to Nefertari

Nefertari Tomb located at the Valley of the Queens, West Bank of Luxor and referred to as QV66. Nefertari’s tomb is among the most spectacular, lavishly and beautifully decorated tombs in Egypt. The tomb was first discovered in 1904 by Ernesto Schiaparelli. It is called the Sistine Chapel of Ancient Egypt.

The tomb was constructed in a style similar to that of Seti I and Merenptah in the Valley of the Kings where the tomb descends by way of a long stepped corridor into a large pillared burial chamber. In the case of Nefertari, the corridor essentially divides the tomb space into two with the antechamber and adjoining room providing one set of decoration and the burial chamber another.

The conception of death for the Egyptians was linked with regeneration and rebirth, primarily in two forms, one following the rising and setting of the sun cyclically and the other linked to a rebirth in the afterlife through the body of Osiris.

The tomb of Nefertari illustrates both of these concepts of rebirth through the choice of deities (Osiris and Isis are often represented but so are Ra-Harakty, Atum, etc.) and her choice of texts from the Book of the Dead found inside the tomb. The queen always appears by herself in her tomb without her husband Rameses II. Likewise, her skin is almost always painted in more masculine reddish tones rather than the typical female yellow, which suggests that by adopting typically male, attributes, she was able to become Osiris and complete her transformation into the afterlife

Why the Ticket expensive?

Since the discovery in 1904, the tomb has been opened and closed to the public numerous times. The tomb of Queen Nefertari underwent restoration work 30 years ago, to restore the paintings from deterioration from water damage, salt formation, and bacterial growth.
Now, the number of visitors is limited, in order to prevent further damage from traffic and the humidity of visitor’s breath. That is the reasoning behind the big ticket price.

Is the Tomb of Queen Nefertari Worth It?

In our opinion, yes, the tomb of Queen Nefertari is worth the big expense. It is the most beautiful tomb that you can see in Egypt.
If you travel all the way to Egypt, it is worth it to spend a little more money to see one the most breathtaking places in Egypt.

One important thing, there is no discount for kids.

Pyramids of Giza

Facts About The Pyramids Of Giza

The Giza Pyramids Complex, also called the Giza Necropolis, is the site on Giza Plateau in Greater Cairo, Egypt that include the Great Pyramid of khufu,The Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure along with the Great Sphinx.

The Pyramids of Giza were built during the fourth Dynasty of old Kingdom, almost 5,000 years ago. The site includes the valley Temple of Khafre, Solar Boat of Khufu, six small Pyramids with several cemeteries and the remains of a workers village.

The site is at the edges of the Western Desert, approximately 9 km (5 mi) west of the Nile River in the city of Giza, and about 13 km (8 mi) southwest of the city Centre of Cairo.

Egypt’s pharaohs expected to become gods in the afterlife. To prepare for the next world they erected temples to the gods and massive pyramid tombs for themselves—filled with all the things each ruler would need to guide and sustain himself in the next world.

The Pyramids Of Khufu,Khafre, And Menkure

Pharaoh Khufu began the first Giza pyramid project, circa 2550 B.C. His Great Pyramid is the largest in Giza and towers some 481 feet (147 meters) above the plateau. Its estimated 2.3 million stone blocks each weigh an average of 2.5 to 15 tons.

Khufu’s son, Pharaoh Khafre, built the second pyramid at Giza, circa 2520 B.C. His necropolis also included the Sphinx, a mysterious limestone monument with the body of a lion and a pharaoh’s head. The Sphinx may stand sentinel for the pharaoh’s entire tomb complex.

The third of the Giza Pyramids is considerably smaller than the first two. Built by Pharaoh Menkaure circa 2490 B.C., it featured a much more complex mortuary temple.

How To Go Inside The Great Pyramid

If your inner-explorer has you dreaming of venturing inside Egyptian Pyramids, You are in luck!! You can purchase a ticket to go in all the three of the Pyramids, including the Great Pyramid of Khufu. If you are not claustrophobic, the experience can be pretty cool.

The pyramid of Cheop’s Queens, is free to go inside, and is the only free pyramids in the complex. I highly suggest going in as it’s quite different from the three main pyramids. It’s also smaller and free…so you’ve got nothing to lose!

The Great Pyramid

To enter the Great Pyramid, you need to climb blocks of limestone until you find the entrance, where you will see plenty of people hanging out and taking pictures. The entrance located on the north face of the Pyramid. To get up to Kings burial chamber, you will walk up a ramp through the Grand Gallery (150 feet in length) until you reach the kings chamber, the room very impressive for its simplicity, and made from Aswan red granite .inside the room pharaoh’s empty broken granite sarcophagus.

Great Pyramid additional fees: 400 LE per person

Great Sphinx
Great Sphinx

Important Note: you can take photos inside the Great Pyramid with a cell phone, at no additional fee. However, photography with a camera is not permitted inside of the Great Pyramid.

Pyramids Of Khafre And Menkaure

These two Pyramids are smaller, cheaper, and typically less crowded than the Great Pyramid.

Entrance to Inside of 2nd or 3rd Pyramid: 100 LE per person

Is Going Inside The Great Pyramid Worth It?

Entering the Great Pyramid costs additional money and will add about 30 minutes to your visit to the Giza Plateau. It can be a hot, crowded walk up through the Grand Gallery of the Great Pyramid so if you dislike crowds or have claustrophobia, skip going this Pyramid.

There’s not much to see as the mummies and treasure has long been plundered or relocated. It’s much different experience than the Valley of the Kings.

Can You Climb The Pyramid

The Entrance of the Great Pyramid at Giza Necropolis Cairo, Egypt
The Entrance of the Great Pyramid at Giza Necropolis Cairo, Egypt

Technically, the answer to this is “no”! At one point it was possible to climb the pyramids, however those days are gone. The only place where you’re able to go up a few steps without asking permission is at the entrance to the Great Pyramid.

Is A Camel Ride Worth It?

Giza Pyramids
Camel ride at Giza Pyramids

If you want to leave the crowds behind and behold stunning views of the pyramids, put a camel ride on the top of your list of things to do here.

If you want to ride a camel or horse at The Pyramids, know that there is an official rate: Feel free to negotiate further if you can, but know that nobody is allowed to charge you more than that amount.

Here are my tips for ensuring you don’t get scammed or overpay:

Wait until you get inside the complex to ride an animal. Don’t let anyone outside the ticket office convince you. There are plenty of animals at every turn.

Be clear and firm when you’re negotiating your price. Say out loud how long you’ll be riding for and to where, and state the price in Egyptian pounds. If someone tries to pull a fast one on you at the end, stand your ground and walk away if necessary. Signs about the official rates are posted in several places.

Don’t pay until after you’ve completed your ride. Most animal handlers expect a tip, as is customary in Egypt. It’s up to you how much you’d like to give. we recommend 20 – 50 EGP.

Feel free to pick another animal if yours looks hungry or tired. Unfortunately, not all animals are well-taken care of.

How Much Time Do You Need At The Pyramids Of Giza

From our experience, minimum 3 hours you need at Giza Pyramids. This gives you enough time to go inside one of the Pyramids (Half Hour), go on a Camel ride for (Half hour), visit Panoramic Point, seeing the Great Sphinx and Valley Temple.

Best Time Of The Day To Visit The Pyramids

First of all, No matter which season or month you choose to visit Egypt, come to the pyramids as soon as they open. Most visitors and tour groups don’t start showing up until 9 or 10 am, so you can enjoy some peace and quiet and photos without people in them by arriving early.

If you will be visiting Egypt during the months of December and January, it is common for the Pyramids to be hazy in the morning.so we recommend visiting the pyramids after 10 am.

During summer season we highly recommend visiting the Pyramids morning to beat the heat and wear hat and drink water as much as you can.

Lastly, Fridays and Saturdays are holidays in Egypt, and that’s when the Pyramids are typically filled with schoolchildren, and many local Egyptian visiting during this time, making the Pyramids more crowded.

What To Wear

It doesn’t matter what time of year you visit the pyramids, it will be HOT! And if you’re planning to go inside the pyramids it will be exceptionally hot (and humid). There’s also very little shade around the pyramids so there’s little respite from the sun.

There are no restrictions as to what to wear when you visit the Pyramids of Giza. Wear comfortable clothing and sturdy pair of walking shoes and a lightweight hat with a wide brim if possible. Egypt is conservative country, so we recommend keeping your shoulders covered and not wearing very short shorts.

How Do You Get To The Pyramids Of Giza

To get to the Pyramids of Giza, your best option is to either take a taxi, Uber, or hire a guide and driver.

We highly recommend by Private Guide and Driver, especially if you want to avoid all the hassle of negotiating camel rides, getting around the Giza Plateau, buying tickets, etc.,

How To Get Around The Pyramids Of Giza

The Main entrance to Giza Pyramids

There are two entrances at the Pyramids of Giza. One entrance is near the Great Pyramid, not far from Marriott Mena House. The second entrance near the Sphinx.

How Much Does It Cost To Visit The Pyramids

It’s not outrageously expensive to visit the Pyramids, considering they’re the only remaining ancient wonder in the world. Kids and students (under 30 years old, with a valid student ID) are half price, which is pretty consistent throughout Egypt.

Where To Take The Best Pictures Of The The Pyramids Of Giza

It’s hard to take a bad photo at The Pyramids because they’re so epic (and visible from everywhere!). That being said, there are a few key places you can stand to ensure you get an awesome shot. On Camel ride, panoramic point, in front of the Great Sphinx.

Is It Safe To Visit The Pyramids In 2021?

The Pyramids are safe to visit. There’s a security checkpoint upon entering, complete with metal detectors and bag checks. There are also police officers inside the complex to make sure nothing sketchy happens. The only thing you have to do is be wary of vendors trying to sell you things, but they’re harmless.

Tips For Visiting The Pyramids With Kids

Visiting the Pyramids of Giza is pretty much on everyone’s bucket list. Especially children, because, they learn about the Pyramids, Pharaohs, Mummies and King Tutankhmun. They think how cool it would be actually see them for real. You can take kids to the pyramids at any age, but I’d suggest waiting until they’re at least 6 or 7 years old. By this point they’ll know what they are, be able to appreciate the experience, and can put up with a bit of walking and heat!

Tour to Giza Pyramids including Riding a Camel and Egyptian Museum
Family with Kids visiting Giza Pyramids

The pyramid complex is spread over a fairly large area that can require a lot of walking in the desert sun. I’d suggest hiring an air-conditioned car and driver for the day. Although you won’t need much driving, it’s nice to have the vehicle to transport you between the various pyramids and viewpoints. You can also leave extra water in the van, as well as some snacks and a change of clothes if needed.

Make sure the kids wear sturdy hiking sandals, to protect them from the hot sand while keeping their feet cool.

Bring LOTS of water! It can get very hot and you’ll still do a lot of walking even if you hire a car. You’ll need to stay hydrated to avoid heat stroke. Make sure everyone wears a hat and sun glass.

Basic Advice On Visiting The Pyramids Of Giza

The best time to visit Egypt pyramids is in the winter when the temperature is the coolest. Ideally you’ll want to visit between December and March.

The best time of day to visit the pyramids is first thing in the morning, again when it’s coolest! The pyramid complex opens at 8am, so try to be there as early as possible.

If you’re visiting the pyramids on your own, you’ll have to walk from the entrance to the pyramids. It’s only about 10min, but it’s uphill, so prep yourself!

There’s a metal detector and bag check at the entrance. You’ll have to pass through this after you’ve bought your tickets.

You can go inside all three pyramids (if they’re open), but you’ll have to purchase the tickets at the entrance. You need to decide which ones you want to go inside before you start your visit. The inside of all three pyramids are very similar, and they’re all hot and claustrophobic!

Carry small bills with you to use as baksheesh (tips). You may not need it much (we actually didn’t at all), or you may feel like someone’s asking you for baksheesh every time you turn around.

Don’t let the vendors working there get to you. They’re just doing their job, so either ignore them or joke around with them as I did. Getting angry won’t make the experience fun. Of all the places tourists visit in Egypt, The Pyramids are the only place in Egypt where the hassle is particularly annoying.

Be wary of people working inside: many want you to buy their souvenirs or to be your guide (for a fee). Be firm and don’t give anyone your ticket, camera, etc. even if they say they’re with the government or the police.

Fridays and Saturdays are days off in Egypt, so avoid visiting then when possible.

If you’re foreign-looking (read: blonde), teens and young kids may ask to take selfies with you. Feel free to say no, as this can turn into a swarm pretty quickly.

If you’re a student, be sure to bring your student ID for a discount on ticket prices.

Tipping for anything and everything is customary in Egypt. That means tipping the person helping you with your camel/horse if you’re riding one, as well as anyone who takes your photo.

If you’re hungry after your excursion and are looking for a good restaurant nearby, check out Pyramids Restaurant outside the gates near The Sphinx. Alternatively, there are some fast food options like KFC or Pizza Hut available.

How to Book a Nile Cruise

There are many offline and online channels for the booking We will list every one of them and the pros and cons of each one.

Through a traditional travel agencies; if you have used to book with a travel agency your flight ticket ask them about the price of certain Nile cruise boat, usually, this can be a good choice in case if you are coming with charter flight as they can have the attractive package includes the flight ticket but usually they do not have many choices.

To book direct with the cruise line the only good side of this way is the trust of this channel but you will pay what they call it rake rate which is much more expensive than any other way also they do not provide full Egypt holiday package.

III. To book with online trusted portals like Booking.com, Expedia, they are also much more expensive and they are not flexible that you cannot change part of your package or customized your trip.

To book Nile cruise and stay online with an Egyptian tour operator, they have the best rates and you can customize your package as you like even during the trip, but you must choose a trusted one with good reviews and secured website, speak first with more than one and we recommend to check and read Google my business & Tripadvisor reviews before you book your Nile cruise at egyptkeytours

Do I Need a Visa to Visit Egypt, And If So, How I Do Acquire One, How much it cost in 2021?

For the vast majority of travelers to Egypt, a valid passport and a travel visa is required. A visa can easily be purchased at the airport when you arrive. The cost for a single-entry, 30-day tourist visa is $25 (or equivalent in Euro), must be paid in cash (no credit or debit cards accepted), and your passport must be valid for at least six months. Citizens of all European countries, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, South Korea, Macedonia, New Zealand, Norway, Russia, Serbia, Ukraine and United States can obtain a visa upon arrival.

Visas can also be purchased beforehand through Egypt’s Visa e-Portal: https://visa2egypt.gov.eg. Forty-one different nationalities are eligible to purchase the e-visa, however, it’s far easier to simply buy the visa at the airport.

Do Children also need a Visa?

Yes, Even if they are minors and/or included in the passport of their parents.

What types of money and credit cards are accepted in Egypt?

In tourist areas, all major credit cards, Euros, and US dollars are widely accepted. However, it’s nice to have a few Egyptian Pound notes and coins for tipping, minor purchases, and small shops. There are ATMs at banks throughout all the major tourism areas where you can withdrawal Egyptian Pounds. Any currency exchange should be taken care of at one of the many officially authorized kiosks at the airport.
