The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization
About the Museum
Connecting the past to the present, the NMEC closely weaves together the vibrant heritage of Egypt, one of the oldest civilizations in the world. The museum hosts a wide variety of artifacts ranging from predynastic objects up to modern-day cultural symbols, embarking visitors on an enriching journey of Egyptian culture through time. Complementing the rich historical canvas of the whole area, the museum is located within close proximity to numerous archeological sites. Overlooking the natural lake of Ein-Sira and overseeing the Citadel at a distance, the museum is strategically positioned at the heart of Fustat, Egypt’s first Islamic capital.
The NMEC is one of the major projects developed by the Ministry of Antiquities in cooperation with UNESCO. It established itself as the sole entity of its kind in Egypt, and the first museum dedicated to civilization in the Arab World. It’s a fully integrated cultural hub, opening its door to researchers, Scholars and visitors and offering an engaging platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange.
